Tuesday 19th July 2022 - A Birthday in the camp!
Written by Birthday Girl Lauren E.
Hiii everyone,
Today we are doing our first coaching day. We all got into our groups and then we were shuttled to all different schools. My group went to RCZ School as the first destination. When we got there, there was already a group there who had set up a few pitches and we set up another one. We collected the children that were not playing in the tournament and played lots of games. As we have 2 minibuses, Mr Sylvia and Mr Horrod were running everyone around between different schools.
We packed away and then our group went to another school which had very little equipment and all our equipment was on the other minibus. We managed to find a few tag belts, cones and a ball. Then we took a 10 minute walk (over the train tracks), to a large road that was not in use where 20 of the children were playing Tag Rugby and the others were playing games. There were a lot of rocks and glass on the floor, which was difficult to pick up. All the children were very thankful and appreciative.
Our next school was Sosco Primary School. We were the only group and set up 2 pitches, played lots of games with the children. Eventually, all the other Esher High students arrived and so everyone was playing games and having fun.
We then came home, and had an hour to get cleaned and ready for dinner (pizza)! It was a very long, tiring but exciting day and everyone was very happy.
To Mum and Dad, I'm having the best time, but I am missing everyone at home a lot. But it's fine because Miss Perks is looking after me. Can't wait to see everyone and tell everyone I love them. I'll see you soon.
Also I'm 15 now!!
Has Ellie had her baby please? :)

Good Morning/Afternoon family, friends and everyone else lucky enough to read todays blog. I have never eaten a bread roll so gorgeous. Mr Sylvia's wake up call sounded throughout the dorms at 7.15am, personally I was ecstatic with my lie in. I was almost burnt alive at the start of my shower, however I quickly adapted the temperature to my preference. The 30m sprint to the shower is an event I have become accustomed to.
Today I visited 4 schools and enjoyed coaching, referring and learning with them. Harry F, Daisy, Brodie and I ran one pitch. The children loved the games and drills, especially 'Fire on the mountain' (which they taught us) and 'Sharkie Sharkie' (also known as bulldog). I love hearing the cheers of excitement as we arrive whilst waving at the jumping children through the minibus.
St Patricks School was especially eye opening as we walked through the village to teach at the playing fields. Our first step is to sweep glass and other rubble off the pitch, then we can jump into action!
As I am writing this I am surrounded by some very red faces. Thankfully only my ears have fallen victim to the sun (so far). Whilst today has been physically demanding I am enjoying Day 5 in Zambia.
Now it's time for PIZZA!!!
Thank you all for reading, love you Mum, Dad, Martha and N

ReplyDeleteThis all sounds awesome, Lucas. It's great to hear that you're enjoying it all and, of course, that the bread is so outstanding. Also, well done for only burning your ears. We're all missing you here (including all the people at the cricket club, who keep asking me when you're back) but it's lovely to hear about what a great experience you're all having, even if we are jealous of the comparatively cool weather they seem to have in Africa. We all love you and miss you. Dad x
ReplyDeleteHey Lucas, I'm quite jealous of you and your cool weather compared to the 40 DEGREES here. It is ridiculous! Have you made friends with any zebras yet? Enjoy your bread rolls. Miss you Martha
